Spirit Saturday: Tropical Caña

This cocktail may be a little tropical for the weather that we've been experiencing this past week, but hey, you have to channel summer somehow during the winter or else you will just be miserable. I wish I could be some where tropical right now, like Costa Rica, which is where by brother and sister-in-law just returned from for their honeymoon! They brought me back Flor de Caña 7 Year Rum from their trip, which inspired me to make something fun with it. It is a really smooth, tasty rum that can be drunk alone and kind of reminded me of bourbon. After a little research I found a great recipe from Flor de Caña's website.

Tribal Caña yields 1
Adapted from Flor de Caña

Ingredients
2 ounces Flor de Caña (any aged rum works, or even gold rum)
3/4 ounce fresh lime juice
3/4 ounce pineapple juice
1/2 ounce simple syrup
3 drops vanilla extract
10 cilantro leaves
8 mint leaves
cilantro and mint sprigs for garnish

Muddle mint, cilantro, lime and pineapple juice in a Collins glass. Add rum, simple syrup and vanilla extract. Fill the glass halfway with crushed ice and use a spoon to swizzle ingredients. Fill the glass the rest of the way with crushed ice, giving it another swizzle. Garnish with fresh mint and cilantro sprigs. Turn up the heat and enjoy your tropical oasis!
